LiRA’s lip-reading solution to improve communication for voiceless individuals was born out of the UNC Healthcare Innovation Challenge for graduate and professional students. Guided by numerous customer discovery interviews and considering our team strengths, we realized lip-reading technology was not only desperately needed by aphonic patients, but a technology we could produce. When other physicians, speech language pathologists, hospital innovation members, and aphonic individuals learn about our work, they are excited and cannot wait for it to be released. LiRA’s eloquent solution is continually praised, and we are honored to develop this technology.
